In anticipation of my new CD, Certain Elements, we’ve pre-released a single from the project to contemporary jazz radio. The single,“Cherish,” is a contemporary jazz remake of the 1966 No. 1 hit by TheAssociation, with an arrangement by producer/keyboardist Trammell Starks, who’s produced Billboard artists such as Carol Albert and Jennifer Holiday. With its magnetic melody and contemporary feel, I loved digging into this Cherish. The players on it — which include Sam Skelton (Jeff Lorber, Elton John, London Symphony), Sam Sims (Boney James, Dave Koz, Michael Jackson), Lil’ John Roberts (George Duke, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson) — captured the magic. When I learned the song’s songwriter, Terry Kirkman of The Association, heard the track and then took the time to let us know he loved it, calling it a “beautiful surprise,” it was a Good Day! The track will be available for purchase on Oct. 5 when the entire project, Certain Elements, is released (more info on that soon). And look for a “Cherish” lyric video to be posted on my Music Page/YouTubechannel soon.
