In a few weeks, music fans around the world will watch as recipients of the 58th Grammy Awards are announced. I’ll be watching too, with a little more knowledge this year than in year’s past because my 2015 release, “Karla Harris Sings the Dave and Iola Brubeck Songbook,” was on the ballot that determined the nominees for this year’s awards. We were approved for inclusion in the Best Jazz Vocal category alongside several dozen others “for your consideration,” and while the CD didn’t go on to be one of the five nominated in this category, it was fun to have garnered a spot on the ballot alongside the community of so many absolutely amazing artists I admire. And … it was enlightening to have a participant’s view of the Grammy process. I’ve learned a lot about the biz throughout this whole past year. Quite the trip. Most of all, I’m happy this project found me and proud to be part of the music it offers, contributes and represents. Thank you to all who’ve been a part of this journey with me through your listening!
