Nancy Wilson’s records were in my parents’ album stack when I was growing up and I loved “Something Wonderful,” singing along with it as a little girl. “I Wish You Love” was one of the first standards I ever learned, and it was Nancy’s version that taught me the song. My love for Ms. Wilson’s music goes way back and I’ve wanted to do a tribute show with some of her most iconic renditions for years. So it’s with great pleasure that I look forward to this weekend in Kansas City, where I’ll be presenting a Nancy Wilson tribute featuring the music from her 1961 collaboration with Cannonball Adderley’s quintet, and more of her very best. I’ll be with world-class musicians from that city, Jim Mair, Roger Wilder, Bob Bowman and Todd Strait. Can’t wait to meet the fine jazz friends and fans of K.C.!
